Megalomania (a poem)
We approach the Almighty
as if we were a husband coming home from a business trip,
still smelling like that woman from the office,
her makeup on our collar.
We throw our shirts in the laundry room
not caring who sees the marks of a tumble.
The wife can clean that up.
That’s what wives are for.
And when she walks in
holding a toddler on each hip
we say, “Hey.”
She says, “I love you no matter what,"
"I'm so glad you are home."
And we say, “I know you do.”
“Can you get me a sandwich?”
